How does one conclude evolution is fact?

Im no expert by any stretch of the imagination but i and am trying to learn about it. Right now i still believe in creationism and my main problem with evolution so far is this. Fossil records do not prove anything solidly. It proves that an animal very similar to ourselves existed but it doesnt prove we evolved from them. I beleive in micro-evolution which is more natural selection but evolution doesnt have any empirical evidence as humans do not have a lifespan long enough to observe it.
