I am not friends with my best friend. Should I get newer friends?

Ok look here's what happened my best friend was being a good friend to me and we have been friends since 6th grade in Middle School. Until then in 2009 he called me names that I REALLY hate the most names like: Idiot,Francewa,Drama Queen, and George. I got really mad at him so I said to him I won't be friends with him. Then, he said he was very sorry and him and I had worked things out and we were friends again. But then something very bad happened and that's when our friendship ended. He called me back the names that I told him never to say to me again but then he was acting stupid and he doesn't listen to me when I'm trying to help him. And just then he was being mean to one of my friends and I was sticking up for my friend I told him to stop it and he said why should I? Then I told him the things I will never do with him again. He said I don't give a damn. That's when our friendship ended. It lasted from 2006-2011
