How do I approach a friend I really like?

There's this girl I've been friends with for a while, and I really like her. If I make a move to kiss her, or even ask if I can kiss her, I'm afraid that'll ruin our friendship. I don't want to say "I love you" because neither of us know what that means, and she already knows I like her. How should I approach her?
